Dental Oncology Care: Dental and Care of the Radiotherapy Patient |
Head and neck cancer patients are dentally assessed and treated before surgical and radiation treatment. Referrals are received from Maxillo-facial and ENT Surgeons and from radiation and chemo-oncologists. Treatment is provided in the form of preventative dental care with the use of fluorides to strengthen teeth and antiseptic to control dental decay, advice about dry mouth and diet. It is essential to maintain oral function and long-term quality of life. Long-term care is provided in collaboration with the general dental practitioner.
