Combining The Digital And Conventional Workflow To Achieve Optimized Clinical Outcomes In Fixed Prosthodontic Rehabilitation

Abstract:

Digital workflow technology permits the use of dental materials with enhanced mechanical and manufacturing properties. The method of fabrication of restorations using the digital workflow purports to involve fewer steps, fewer sources of potential error and therefore offers more standardization and predictability to the operator. The process is associated with lower fabrication costs and faster fabrication times for fixed prosthodontic restorations.

The digital processes can be readily applied to single tooth and short span applications however prosthodontists will often treat more complex cases, which require a high degree of biomechanical precision particularly where retention and resistance form, marginal fit and occlusal control is concerned.

This poster sets out to ask, “Can the digital and conventional workflows be combined as required to achieve an optimized clinical outcome in a fixed prosthodontic rehabilitation?” A case presentation of a fixed posterior dental reconstruction is given in which the two fabrication techniques are married in order to attain an enhanced clinical outcome.
