Research Night
Training in Cancer Therapeutics (TRACT) scholars participated in the recent research night in TCD where they presented aspects of their work on oral and oesophageal cancer to the general public.
Using a microscope and tumour samples on slides they were able to show the disease progression and explain how various risk factors (for example smoking & drinking) can cause the tissue within the oral cavity to become cancerous. Building on the success of the recent mouth cancer awareness day the public were also shown video demonstrations featuring Dr Denise MacCarthy of how to check their mouths for any suspicious symptoms.
