The Dublin Dental University Hospital have extended the closing date for the Clinical Doctorate in Dental Surgery (D.Ch.Dent) Special Care Dentistry programme full-time (3-year) and part-time (5-year) commencing in September 2020.  Applications will now be accepted until 6th December 2019 (inclusive).

Transition Year Day Programme 2019

The School of Dental Science runs a Day Programme each year for Transition Year students, taking a maximum of 50 students for the programme. Students will be selected from a range of schools around the country to maximise school participation. The date for the 2019/20 Transition Year Programme is Friday 29th November 2019. Students wishing to attend must complete this online application process and include Junior Certificate results and a personal statement. In the event of the programme being oversubscribed, places will be offered competitively on the basis of Junior Certificate results and personal statement highlighting the reasons for your interest in participation. Normally only one student per school will be selected. Places will not be offered until after the closing date for applications. The closing date for application is Sunday 17th November 2019.

Professor John Clarkson Awarded the Charles Godon Medal of Honour

The FDI Word Dental Federation at the  recent FDI/ADA Congress in San Francisco awarded Professor John Clarkson the Charles Godon Medal of Honour. The Award is the highest given by FDI and is made to oral health professionals who have made an outstanding contribution in the field of dentistry. He is the first recipient of the Award. Professor Clarkson has worked in general practice, the public health service, as Executive Director of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and as Professor/ Consultant and also Dean of the Dental School in Trinity College. He was elected President of IADR and represented them on the FDI Science Committee for many years

Application process now open for the Certificate in Dental Radiography 2020

The Dental Radiography programme is now open for applications for the programme commencing in January 2020 until June 2020. This programme is approved by the Dental Council of Ireland and successful applicants will receive a Certificate in Dental Radiography from the Dublin Dental University Hospital. This programme is delivered in association with Diagnostic Imaging, UCD School of Medicine and Medical Science.

Irish 3 year olds are consuming up to 10 teaspoons of sugar a day

Researchers from the Dublin Dental University Hospital at Trinity College have found that 3 year olds in Ireland are consuming on average 10 level teaspoons of ‘free sugar’ a day. Free sugars includes those sugars added during the production or processing of food and sugars naturally present in honey, syrups, fruit juices and fruit juice concentrates. Dietary free sugars are the most important risk factor for dental caries and can contribute to excess energy intake with little nutrient benefit.
